Nadda to quit Himachal ministry and join Gadkari’s BJP national team

Shimla: Forest minister Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to quit the 2 year old Prem Kumar Dhumal minister after being picked up by BJP president Nitin Gadkari for his national team as national general secretary.

On his new appointment being announced by the party in Delhi, Nadda said, “Abiding by the party’s stance of having one man one post, I will resign as state minister on joining as general secretary of the party.”

He said that he was humbled by the faith reposed in him and he would work towards expanding the party base along the roadmap laid out by the president.

Alluding to old guard Shanta Kumar being retained as party national vice-president and him being made general sectary, Nadda said, it was matter of pride for the state unit to find two important positions in the national level of the party.

Nadda, a third term MLA from Bilaspur assembly segment is forest minister and parliamentary minister in the Prem Kumar Dhumal ministry. He was also a minister in the 1998-2003 government of Prem Kumar Dhumal and was also leader of the opposition group in an earlier term.

Fifty year old Nadda and Gadkari have worked together as part of BJP’s youth wing in the early 1990’s, when Nadda was president All India Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha from 1991 to 1994 and Gadkari was Yuva Morcha general secretary.

Excellent move by Nadda. A leader from HP is highly required in national politics. Does not matter which party. Anand Sharma is there and so is Virbhadra but Sharma is not a people’s leader and Virbhadra is in old age.

We need a leader who can represent people of Himachal and Nadda does fit into that role.

Also decision to have Shanta in national scene is excellent one. BJP has shown a TEAM face! Good for Himachal.

It is a good news indeed. Nadda’s stint as health minister during earlier tenure was controversial. He perhaps understand the strong dislike across state. I hope he will focus on betterment of Himachal for gaining long term appreciation. Certainly people who were treating him badly in the state politics deserve a continuous fear from him now.
