Himachal Cabinet Approves 3 New Medical Colleges, 1 Ayurvedic Pharmacy College

Shimla: The Himachal cabinet today approved opening of three new medical colleges, two in the private sector and one through private-public-partnership (PPP), decided to set up 10 CT scan centers, open a government Ayurvedic B-Pharmacy College and decided to decentralize purchase of medicinal drugs.

Asha Swaroop chief secretary disclosed that the cabinet after accepting the recommendations of a cabinet sub-committee decided to grant permission for opening of greenfield medical colleges at Hamirpur and Una, while the third one at Sarkhaghat in Mandi would be opened under PPP mode.

“This would help provide more access to medical education as well as improve health services in the state,” said Swaroop. Besides it would provide more trained manpower to man the state health institutions, she added.

Deepak Shanan, principal secretary health who was also present at the briefing stated that modalities for the medical college under PPP would firmed up after considering the recommendations of a consultant, on the basis of which bidding would be invited.

Swaroop said that the cabinet approved setting up of a government Ayurvedic B-Pharmacy College at Jogindernagar in Mandi district that would be attached to Rajiv Gandhi Government Post Graduate Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Paprola in district Kangra.

Cabinet also agreed to set-up 10 CT Scan Service Centres in various health institutions under private partnership for a 5 year period so as to deliver better health care facilities.

Below Poverty Line (BPL) families would be eligible to avail facilities free of cost as that would be re-imbursed by respective Rogi Kalyan Samitis to the private operators.

For purchase of medicines for government hospitals, the cabinet decided to authorize concerned Rogi Kalyan Samitis at approved rate contracts so as to speed up shipment of the medicines to health institution directly.

Other decisions included creating 637 vacancies in the government sector, of which 259 are in the revenue department, 369 in the police department and 15 in the forest department.

For strengthening the law and order machinery, the police recruitment’s include 50 lady constables and 34 posts of sub-inspectors, said the chief secretary.

Approval was granted for raising the 6th India Reserve Battalion in district Sirmour. This would generate employment to 1,007 educated unemployed youth in the state.

Approval was granted for opening of 5 new veterinary dispensaries and transfer of 2-60-16 hectares of government land in Mohal Pratapnagar, Tehsil Amb, district Una for Nangal-Talwara Railway Line free of cost to pave the way for construction of ongoing railway line project.
