Surya Group Foundation to adopt 200 Himachal Villages

suryaShimla: Lighting major and pipe manufacturer Surya Roshni as part of its corporate social responsibility program through Surya Foundation is to adopt 200 villages in Himachal and provide support for education, hygiene and other needs of the village communities, JP Aggrawal chairman and managing director Surya group stated here today.

Speaking to the media over a consumer awareness drive about use of spurious pipes, Aggrawal said that they were on expansion mode and by investing about Rs 550 crore in new plants the company exptects to push up revenues to over Rs 5000 crore.

He disclosed that Rs 450 crore was being spent on a plant in Gujarat, which would mainly focus on manufacturing pipes for the oil and gas sector.

surya2Another Rs 150 crore was being spent on a plant in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, which besides manufacturing water pipes would also manufacture lighting poles and other pipes.

The company was also looking at proposal of investing in Himachal and there was an expansion going on at the Bahadurgarh facility, he said.

The company ongoing expansion should get completed by the end of this financial year and would help to create about 6000 new jobs, he said.

“We are keen to recruit manpower for all levels from Himachal and would soon be advertising for the upcoming openings, said Aggrawal.

Cautioning against the use of spurious pipes, he said that there were about 100 companies involved in manufacture of lower quality pipes. These companies have cornered about 30 percent of the market to the disadvantage of the consumer who has to bear losses on the pipes getting damaged early.

Even an ISI mark on them is no surety of standard quality on such piping material, said Aggrawal.

Surya Roshni is counted among the country’s major pipe manufacture with a capacity to produce more than 2 lakh tons annually.

Besides steel, Surya group is also in the lighting industry and is counted among the top two lighting equipment manufacturer in the country.

    Thanks for the Surya Group.
    Please note that the Surya bulb-100w was purchased by me in 1974 and that was time when Surya was not much know and was new in the market. It last many years even 1991 also the same lamp was in use at my home, I was wondering how this is possible ?
    Now the same company is manufacturing the lamps but they does not last as long.
    Can any one from the Surya Lighting provide me the answers.
