Shimla: Jagdish Kumar, a Lecturer in Physical Education at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla has won Bronze Medal at the age of 57 years in the WORLD MASTERS WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP (For above 35 years Category), by defeating Mr. Mustaffa of IRAN, a four times champion. This championship was organized by World Wrestling Federation (FILA) at ANKARA (Turkey) from August 14th to 16th ,2009.
Jagdish Kumar is the famous wrestler in India, who has won Punjab Kesri, Punjab Tiger and Himachal Kesri awards in wrestling also is a versatile personality who got first position in laughter show India and won Kavi Bhushan award.
A lecturer in Physical Education at the University since 1981 has been a five times National Champion in wrestling and two times National Champion in Boxing. He got best boxer award in National Championship held at Annandale Ground (Shimla) held in 1973. He got Gold Medal in the Circle Style Kabaddi International Championship in 1977. Mr. Kumar has participated till date in more than 2000 (Two Thousand) competitions held at International and National level.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunil Kumar Gupta honoured Mr. Jagdish Kumar for winning a Bronze Medal at the age of 57 and said that his contribution will show the way of good spirit and sports stamina to the youngsters in the Colleges and the University. Prof. Y.P. Sharma, Chairman Physical Education Department was also present on the occasion.
Mr. Jagdish Kumar thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his valuable guidance and conveyed his sincere thanks to the Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Transport Minister Thakur Mahinder Singh and Mr. Anurag Thakur M.P. for inspiring him.
