Himachal CM pays homage to Kargil war hero’s

Shimla: To mark Vijay Diwas on its 10th Anniversary, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal paid glowing tributes to martyrs of Kargil war, saying that as many as 52 brave men from the state during the border conflict laid down their lives in defence of the nation.

Off the four honoured with Param Vir Chakra for acts of bravery during Kargil aggression, two were given to Captain Vikram Batra, posthumously and Rifleman Sanjay Kumar, brave servicemen from Himachal, said Dhumal.

He said that a grateful nation would always remember the martyrs for the sacrifices made. Dhumal said that out of the 52 soldiers who lost their lives in Kargil war, a family member from 40 such families have been provided employment. For the remaining 12 families, whose children were still minors the government was committed to give them job when they will become eligible.

Jobs had been provided to wards of 9 soliders who sustained serious injuries and were not in a position to continue in the service.

Other than that 267 soldiers who have lost their lives or were injured while on guard duty at the frontiers had also been given financial assistance.

Chief Minister said that 39 cases of Kargil were recommended for sanctioning of petrol Pumps and LPG Agencies out of which 24 had been sanctioned and set up and remaining were in process.

Dhumal counted that there were 1.21 lakh serving soldiers in the armed forces from Himachal and had over 1.01-lakh ex-servicemen.
