Shimla: Investigation into a complaint about alleged leakage of the combined pre-medical examination test (PMT) paper by the criminal investigation department (CID) has not made much headway, as officials scan records of Himachal Pradesh University, the exam conducting authority and that of Vidyapeeth Coaching Centre for corroborate clues.
Meanwhile the university has withheld the PMT final result. SK Gupa, vice-chancellor HPU said, “till the investigation is complete and the concerned authorities rule out any unfair practice adopted for conduct of the examination, we have withheld the final merit of the PMT examination.â€
He denied that there would be any delay in admissions to the various medical schools saying, “counselling for the seats on offer was to only begin on July 15 and there is enough time for that.â€
About the possibility of paper setting secrecy codes getting breached, the vice-chancellor said that the procedure laid down by the Himachal High Court after the 2006 PMT paper leak scam to light was strictly followed in preparing the paper and conduct of the examination.
Rajinder Bhatia, SP Crime who is conducting the inquiry said that so far the investigation had not come across any evidence, which points to any foul play.
“We are looking at the academic records of the students from Vidyapeeth Coaching Centre, who figure in the cut-off mark list, from which the final merit list is to be drawn, he said. Records of the university and the coaching centre are being examined, he added.
As the investigation makes no headway, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has turned around and warned that the government would not hesitate to take legal action against the complainant or any other agency who have levelled false charges and damaged the creditability of the institution.
With as many as 27 students from Vidyapeeth Coaching centre scoring above 600 marks in the PMT merit list, one students parent from Mandi citing media reports had alleged that there was a possibility of the paper having got leaked and had lodged a complaint with the university and other authorities. The government on the request of the vice chancellor has instituted an police inquiry.
