It is good, hope the local costumes, textiles and fabric traditions get a boost with the opening of NIFT.Fashion does not need to be focused entirely on western clothing,it can be seen in (one)-a revival of local traditional costumes,( two)-a more wearable-practical costume-deriving from traditional elements(without forgetting the old school of traditions,(three) in creating a Traditional-modern mix-which could focus on traditional fabrics, patterns, embroideries on new practical wear.
Hope Nift considers this as an important and significant role to its existence.
The new generation children, need to be shown and led into the history of the costumes of Himachal and get them into mainstream-by focusing on these on their final collection.
This is a good news,Hope it also gives due recognition to thousands of weavers, tailors and embroiderers of Himachal.Himachal has a rich cultural heritage when it comes to textiles.
    Sincerely
    Abhinav Vats
