Tera Software, GNG Trading To Roll Out Himachal Online Service Centers

Shimla: The Himachal government entered into an agreement with Tera Software Ltd. and GNG Trading Pvt. Ltd. to establish 2070 common service centres (CSC) in Shimla and Mandi Divisions. These online centres would provide various services at one point in rural areas saving them the trouble of visiting sub-division or district headquarters for the purpose, an official spokesman said.

BK Aggarwal, secretary information technology signed the agreement on behalf of the government and T Gopichand, vice-chairman, Tera Software Ltd and Gaurav Aggarwal, director, GNG Trading Pvt. Ltd signed the agreement on behalf of the companies.

Aggrawal informed that these centres would charge nominal fee for the offer services offered. He said that the services mix would include government services such as voter registration, voter identity cards, police complaint registration, vacancy listings, passport enquiry status, school board results, REFNIC, High Court cases list, government information & forms through websites. Other services to be offered include computer education, examination results, vocational education, micro finance, agriculture related services, utility bill payments, railway and bus bookings.

All panchayats in the two divisions would have these Centres within a year. The government has already singed an agreement with Zoom Developers Pvt. Ltd. for establishing 1296 CSCs in Kangra Division, he informed.

The project is being executed under public-private partnership mode where the private parties will be setting up these centres in a phased manner. The private partners would setup IT infrastructure and identify village level entrepreneurs to operate the centres. These centres would optimally have Internet access along with computer hardware and necessary peripherals like web camera, scanners and printers.

Aggarwal said that the information technology department is further identifying adding more services that could be extended through these centres”A series of workshops and seminars are also being planned to sensitize government functionaries at all levels about the benefits to the citizens for extending services through these centres,” he said.
