Lok Sabha’s Standing Committee of UD department visits Himachal

The Standing Committee on Urban Development undertook an on the spot study visit to Dehradun, Haridwar, Chandigarh and Shimla between 20th to 25th June 2008 in order to track the progress of various projects like Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) as well as of schemes like Swaran Jayanti Shahri Rojgar Yojna (SJSRY), Integrated Housing and Slum Development Scheme (IHSDS) etc.

The Committee was in Shimla on 25th June and had held informal discussions with the representatives of State Government, Central Government agencies and banks regarding ongoing schemes/ projects of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation. It also visited the sites of the Tunnel under construction at Lakkar Bazar, Shimla under JNNURM. The Committee also held informal discussions with the State Government agencies/Departments dealing with Urban Development as well as the Central Agencies like CPWD, NBCC, HUDCO and banks.

The Committee noted the progress of the projects/schemes plus the various difficulties experienced by the beneficiaries in these cities for the reports are to be presented to the Parliament in due course.
