Government to honor people in handicrafts and handloom sector

The State Government has today announced the State-level Awards- 2007. The awards would recognize artists who have made significant contribution in the field of handicraft and handloom.

The awards have been initiated in order to promote handloom and handicraft sector. The first, second and third prizes would include cash prizes of Rs.15,000, 10,000 and 5,000 respectively besides certificates and shawls to weavers. The awardees who would receive the first, second prize are Chander Singh from Kinnaur, Dhani Ram of Chamba. Parmanand of Mandi district and Disha Bhardwaj of Bilaspur would be bestowed with the third prize in handicraft sector. While Narotam Ram of Mandi district and Sita Ram of Kullu district would be awarded 1st prizes whereas Karyudh Dolma of Kinnaur district and Yashbanti Negi of Kullu district would be awarded 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively in Handloom sector, The winners would be honored by Prof Chief Minister in the State level Himachal Day function to be held on15th April, 2008 at Bhoranj in district Hamirpur.
