Recently (in June 2009) i travelled around in Himachal. I arrived in Jenjehali in Mandi distt at the suggestion of a friend.
I learnt a lot first hand about the wonderful people and their culture in the remote villages. the natural beauty is engrossing that i did not feel to return. Himachal is also a state with tremendous soci-economic developement. I saw little children walking (at times two hours one way) to hteir school in Kanda. I found most of the children go to school and Sarva Shiksaha Abhiyan seems to be doing quite well. I found water taps, electricity and toilets in houses in villages that were quite remote by me. I was conneted through my mobile to India and Europe even at great heights. I was happily surprised to find women working in the fields and receiving calls on their mobiles. In some villages i did not find many people. On enquiry I discovered that men and women are out working under Central scheme of NREGA. I talked to so ladies who told me that they get work and are paid usually on time under the scheme.
There is a revolution underway in this very beautiful land. though there are problems too. But then what is the meaning of human life if we do not have problem to solve–It will be boring without challenges of finding solutions.
I have already posted some very beautiful pictures of places i n Himachal on my Facebook page
