Major fire in Birla’s unit

KUMARHATTI: The raw material and property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire which broke out in Birla Textile Mills at Bhatouli Khurad near Baddi today. The fire was noticed at around 4.15 pm in the mixing department of unit no 3. Around 250 workers were working inside the unit during incidence time. They all have rushed to safety well in time after an alarming siren was signaled.

The exact cause of fire was still unknown however as per a company spokesman the short circuit in machines seemed to be reason behind fire. Around 40-50 ton of processed material for export was believed to be destroyed in fire. The three machines were also damaged in fire besides severe losses to unit’s building.

The two fire tenders were rushed from Baddi fire station. The fire was controlled in one hour. The fire losses were running into lakhs of rupees, pointed out Mr. R.K. Sharma the HRD Head of Mills. We were still under process to estimate the damages, he maintained.
