Shimla: A Spokesman of the State said here today that the Ministry of Finance Government of India had exempted 18 type of new industrial units and existing units undertaking substantial activities/expansion which commence production of their products on or after 7th January, 2003 from 100 percent Centre Excise Duty/ Additional Duty of Excise for a period of 8 years irrespective of location that the unit are set up within the State.

Under another notification, new industrial units including existing units undertaking substantial expansion, if located in specified/ notified locations would also be given 100 percent incentive for a period of 10 years, he said.

The spokesman said that it has come to the notice of the Government that the above notification has been amended recently to restrict this benefit to industries engaged in manufacturing activities and exclude non-manufacturing activities such as packing and re-packing of goods in a unit container or labeling or re-labeling of containers.

Official spokesman further said that all aspects of this new notification issued by the Central Government are being studied to watch the interests of the people of the State. In any case the industrial package available to the State should not be diluted. In case the recent notification goes against the interest of the State, the State Government will take up the matter with Centre Government forcefully so that industrial package is implemented in its original shape.
