Kinkri Devi, an illiterate village women, had waged an relentless struggle against the mining community that had played havoc with the environment around the Sirmaur district. For her fight to protect the environment she was given national and international recognition.

The chief minister said that the environmental awakening ignited by Kinkri Devi would be carried forward and people from all walks of life would be roped in to protect the states precious ecology.

The awareness about environmental degradation she created resulted in stopping unscientific exploitation of minerals. The government would be taking effective steps and would requisition the services of the top environmentalists for checking anti environmental activities, said Dhumal.

Such a support is necessary for motivating more people towards social causes.
State must also honour “the Great Khali” of WWE fame. Certainly he doe not require money now. The neglected sirmauri was identified by Punjab police a decade ago. Perhaps, he could not get any appreciation from the state government till date due to the fact that he does not belong to some favoured region. Unfortunately he belongs to a region where running after buses for tourist’s baggages still matters most in a state carved out by their own fellow.
