About Bharmour Development Agency: district Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

Bharmour is situated at an altitude of 7000 feet in the Budhil valley of district Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. The area is very backward and the people here have been mostly shepherds all their life. Sheep raising , has lost charm for the youth who are now directionless and they do not even wish to pursue a nomadic life. Some of them resort to alcohol and drugs. Bharmour development agency steps in here. We work for the welfare of these local people.

Bharmour Development Agency is an NGO with a core focus on projects related to eco-development, non-formal education and raising awareness of wildlife conservation .The NGO is cultivating organic vegetables in 25 acres in this region. The land is of the villagers the workers are all villagers and the beneficiaries are also villagers. The NGO provides all the technical support, the seeds the certifications all at low costs. Maintenance of the soil constitution is achieved by practising organic farming as no pesticides are used. This also creates employment for the local people. Our objective is to improve the living standards and working conditions of the rural agricultural communities specifically with small land holdings, and providing technical and management training to start their own income generating, activities.

The NGO endeavours to restore connectivity between isolated forests, enhancing viability of the tribal area eco system . This would assist in taking pressure off the forest for income generation .To facilitate a series of conservation and sustainability awareness workshops for people living in the vicinity of the corridors. To assist local communities to develop ways of deriving livelihoods minimizing further forest clearance, through exploring ways of reducing land degradation. To develop links with universities and other research institutions to provide opportunities for further training and research. More sustainable livelihoods will be developed with and for local people in the region through providing awareness of, access to and assistance with options such as appropriate multi-cropping systems which do not radically alter peoples’ life styles , but rather give them greater security. Connected forest and a mosaic of sustainable cultivation systems will therefore replace the currently fragmented and diminishing forest and short term monocultures . The well documented example of sustainability resulting from collaboration between private business , local NGO’s and regional governmental authorities ,will be used to facilitate wide scale implementation of the approach elsewhere within rural communities and beyond .

  1. CHANDIGARH: Yuvraj Singh’s exploits on the cricket field may have attracted scores of fans but the star batsman has failed to find the desired price for his six-year old car in an auction aimed at generating funds for charity.

The bidding for his 2001-make Honda City car ended on Thursday night on the India website of world’s biggest online auction player eBay. As many as 88 bids were received with the highest bid coming at Rs 4.46 lakh.

Even though the highest bid was more than double the current market price for a six-year old used car of the same make, it was below the ‘reserve price’ set by the NGO that had been authorised to sell the car and collect the proceeds.

According to information available with eBay, a reserve price is the minimum price a seller is willing to accept for the item and the seller is not obligated to sell the item if the reserve price is not met. Once the reserve price is met, the item is sold to the highest bidder.

It was immediately not known whether the seller would initiate another auction to sell the car.

The bidding continued for ten days, starting October 16. It was a charity auction and proceeds was supposed to go to Bharmour Development Agency, an NGO working toward development of agriculture and local tribals in Bharmour region of Himachal Pradesh.

The car, which Singh had purchased in 2001 presumably with his first cricket income, attracted a bid of as high as Rs 49 lakh on October 22, but the bid was retracted later with the bidder saying the amount was entered wrongly, according to information available on the car’s auction page at eBay website.
