Kullu: Consolidating the anti-Congress forces in the state, opposition party BJP here today announced the merger of HLP, a small regional party mainly composed of former BJP leaders who had broken away from their parent party about four and half years ago.
HLP president Maheshwar Singh, who has also been a former BJP state party president, in the presence of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal announced the merger of his outfit with BJP at a crowded gathering at Dholpur ground.
Making a display of unity, Maheshwar Singh, Dhumal with other BJP leaders which included MP Ramswarup Sharma, MLAs Thakur Gulab Singh, Jai Ram Thakur, Govind Thakur & Kishori Lal took a pledge to work unitedly to strengthen the party.
Speaking to the gathering Maheshwar Singh said “now there is no grudges or differences of any kind, we are again a united and responsible family which would work enthusiastically to strengthen BJP. Congress will suffer in coming assembly elections.”
When questioned by the media about some HLP workers being reluctant to rejoin BJP, Maheshwar said, ”if some workers even after my announcement don’t want to come back I’ll not force anybody to come with me. They are free to take any decision.”
Former chief minister Dhumal said, ‘’we are all united and determined to work for the party. The BJP is getting stronger and Congress is on the verge of being wiped out in the state.
Chief minister Virbhadra Singh is facing corruption charges and it appears the current assembly is going to be dissolved soon, and elections would be held in 2016 instead of 2017.
