Kullu Police Gears Up To Tackle Summer Tourist Rush Traffic Jams

Traffic police's effort to control traffic in Kullu-Manali just don't seem not to be enough

Kullu: Preparing for the summer tourist season, the district police here is gearing up to handle the traffic menace by imposing traffic rules strictly on all vehicles running on the busy highway as well as other important link roads.

Speaking to Hill Post Nishchint Negi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police ( ASP ) said, ”the administration is aware of mounting traffic problems that are being caused because of heavy tourists influx. We are making preparations to tackle the traffic problem. Soon 80 home guards would be deployed between Patalikuhal and Manali as this stretch highly prone to traffic jams during rush season time. All the extra manpower would be used for regulating traffic.”

“For regulating traffic, police would be using signage to let motorists know about parking places so that they don’t face any inconvenience,” said the police officer but warned, “if traffic rules are disobeyed, action would be taken against the violators.”

Taxi operators Banvari Sharma and Anu Sood complained about the traffic management. “At many places the highway is badly congested that leads to traffic jamming up for hours at a go. More traffic police needs to out there for ensuring smooth and uninterrupted flow of vehicles,” they say.

Kullu-Manali is one of the most attractive summer tourist destinations of India that attracts a large number of tourists every year.

This large number of tourists’ influx undoubtedly adds a multiplier effect to the local economy but the mounting traffic chaos is damaging the destination’s image. Though the police every year tries it’s best to handle the menace but somewhere along all efforts just don’t seems not to be enough.
