Community Diwali for Himachali’s in Toronto, Canada

Toronto: Mountain communities wherever they move to have a sense of belonging to the land of their origin.

Just to reconnect with the land of one roots, the Himachali’s who have moved into Canada are organizing a community Diwali event here at Toronto on November 2 from 6 p.m. onwards that is to be peppered with ‘Pahari Naati, Pahari Songs and Pahari cuisine.

Games and sporting competitions have been added to the event to bring alive the sense of belonging to the scenic Himalayan state.

Talking to Hill Post about the event Dalip Kumar Talwar, one of the organizer of the Himachali Night event who belongs to Kullu but moved to Toronto about two decades ago said, “lest we forget the land of our origins, it is a matter of great pride to organize the Diwali with fragrance of Dev-Bhoomi event, best suited to our Himachali Community.”

“Wherever a Himachali may move to around the globe, he cannot break away for the song and naati played out to the hill drum beats that nearly all of us have grown up with,” he added.

The ticketed event has been sponsored by Chauhan Food Services Inc, a Markham Ontario based eatery, Thapliyal and Rai, a professional law corporation, Ranvir Singh Dogra, a broker, Pranav Jethi, Navin Katoch, Dalip Kumar, Punam and Ajay Sharma, all realtors, India Sajawat Puja Hut and community partner Panorama India.

Navin Katoch, who is also part of the organizing team let Hill Post know, “the Himachali’s are a closely knit community in Canada and a lot of guests are expected to make it for a collective celebration at the Diwali event.”

Regular tickets are priced at $ 35 and for early birds it is $ 30. A table of 10 can be booked for $ 300 and children under 5 years of age are being provided free entry.

    I moved to Toronto about 3 years ago and found it really hard to meet anyone from Himachal Pradesh. Please let me know if any event is scheduled in the near future. I am originally from Mandi.
