Turkish Besiktas inks 3-year deal with Croat coach Bilic

Ankara, June 26 (IANS) Croat coach Slaven Bilic signed a three-year deal with Turkish football club Besiktas Wednesday, despite a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) verdict banning the outfit from European competitions for one year over match fixing.

In a written statement, Besiktas said it has signed a three-year deal with the 44-year-old Croat. According to the club’s statement, Besiktas will be paying Bilic 1.5 million euros for the first season, 1.6 million for the second and 1.7 million in the final season.

Bilic was a former defender who started his football career in 1988 with his hometown team Hajdut Split. He had successful foreign spells with Karlsruher in the German Bundesliga and with West Ham United and Everton in the English Premier League before retiring in 2001.
