Vikram Phadnis opens RFW 2013 with traditional outfits

Jaipur, May 10 (IANS) The second edition of Rajasthan Fashion Week (RFW) 2013 began at the Fairmont here Friday with Mumbai-based designer Vikram Phadnis showcasing Rajasthan’s traditional outfits and accessories for both men and women.

In line with the theme “Recreation of Kali,” the collection was designed keeping in mind a modern woman who is confident, bold and independent.

The collection for women was a perfect blend of modern and traditional silhouettes. It comprised vibrant ghaghra cholis (ankle length skirts and blouses with duppattas), floor length designer anarkalis, saris and kurtas.

Beautifully embellished with embroidery like block prints, tie and dye prints, bagaru prints, sanganer prints and zari work, the outfits looked sophisticated and elegant.

Gota and mirror work was quite visible. Bling, golden embroidery and silver work was done extensively. The shades of golden, reds, mustards, blues and greens improved the grace.

Menswear included embroidered sherwanis, waist coats and loose pants with kurtas, jodhpuri and Nehru collar jackets in shades like ivory, black, blues and off whites. The colour palette was decided keeping in mind the summer-spring wedding season.

“I celebrate rural India through my collection. The main aim is to promote the states’ culture and fashion,” said Phadnis who used fabrics like cotton, linen, silk, chiffons and crepe.

The collection was definitely not for those who prefer soft shades and light-weight embroidery.

Instead of the showstopper, the designer walked the ramp along with a bunch of kids who wore ethnic outfits.

The three-day event will conclude May 12 with the grand finale by designer Neeta Lulla.
