Three arrested after fracas near British gurdwara

London, May 20 (IANS) Three men have been arrested after a fracas outside a gurdwara in the city of Norwich in England.

Two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of public disorder offences and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre and a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to Great Yarmouth for questioning after the brawl involving 10 worshippers outside the gurdwara on Old Palace Road in the city during Sunday service, the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press reported Monday.

According to a witness, eight police cars arrived at the scene after the incident Sunday afternoon.

“Officers were called to a Sikh temple on Old Palace Road at about 2.15 p.m following reports of a loud verbal argument in the street,” a police spokesman was quoted as saying.

He added that no weapon was involved in the incident and no one was seriously injured or had to be hospitalised.

“I heard screaming and then saw police cars approaching from all over the place,” another witness said.

Police also said that there was no indication of any racist motivation in the incident at the former furniture store-turned-gurdwara.
