Regional diaspora meet to be held in Sydney

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS) A regional meet of Indian diaspora will be held in Sydney, Australia, Nov 10-12, 2013. in which nearly 1,000 people are likely to participate, Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here, Ravi said the theme of the seventh edition of the annual event will be “connecting for a shared future — the Indian diaspora, India and the Pacific.”

Sessions of the event, called Regional Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, will be devoted to bilateral business opportunities, skill development, technology, education and culture.

“Sydney is the most important commercial city in Australia, and has a large Indian community. It is the best location on the eastern sea board of Australia in terms of connectivity with New Zealand and the Pacific Islands,” Ravi said.

The Indian diaspora from countries like Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, the Philippines and the Pacific Island are likely to participate in the three-day event.

The event is being organised by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs in collaboration with the local authorities and the Indian Mission.
