Nagaland governor to get doctorate degree in Himachal

Shimla: Nagaland Governor and former CBI director Ashwani Kumar will be awarded an honorary doctorate at a convocation of Himachal Pradesh University here to be presided over by President Pranab Mukherjee May 24, a statement said here today.

A total of 272 doctorate degrees, including the most prestigious degree in doctorate of science, will be conferred on the candidates, besides 244 gold medals and prizes, a university statement said.

Vice chancellor of Lucknow’s Baba Sahib Bhimrao Ambedkar Central University R.C. Sobti will also get a doctorate.

It said Mukherjee would be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address, while Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh, who is chancellor of the university, and Chief Minister Virbhadra, Singh would be present.

During his visit to the hill state, Mukherjee will address the assembly and deliver the first Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Lecture at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) here May 24.

Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, an alumnus of the university, was awarded degree of D.Lit. March 7, 2003, by then governor Suraj Bhan.
