Congress pays homage to Chhattisgarh victims

New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi Monday led party workers in paying homage to party colleagues killed by Maoists in Chattisgarh.

The event began with a prayer meeting. The gathering then observed silence for two minutes and offered floral tributes to the slain leaders.

The 45-minute prayer meeting was organised on the lawns on the Congress headquarters.

Indicating the mood in the party, Congress general secretary Janardan Dwiwedi said: “We are both sad and angry.”

Nearly 30 people were killed when Maoists ambushed a convey of Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh Saturday.
