BJP appoints Amit Shah as incharge of UP

New Delhi, May 19 (IANS) The BJP Sunday appointed party general Amit Shah, considered close to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, as incharge of electorally crucuial Uttar Pradesh.

The announcement of incharge of states along with convenors and incharges of various fronts was made Sunday.

Party president Rajnath Singh also appointed party leader Bandaru Dattatray, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, as a vice-president.

Shah’s appointment as incharge of UP, which sends 80 MPs to Lok Sabha, has increased the buzz over Modi’s rise in the BJP and his possible projection as prime ministerial candidate.

Party leader Ananth Kumar was made in charge ofMadhya Pradesh which will go for assembly elections later this year.

Party MP J. P. Nadda has been appointed in charge of Chhattisgarh and Kaptan Singh of Rajasthan – two other states which will go for assembly polls later this year.

Varun Gandhi has been appointed in charge of West Bengal.
