Shimla: The Himachal government today elevated Sudripto Roy, an 1978 batch IAS officer as the new chief secretary of the state. Roy with an additional chief secretary rank was serving as an officer on special duty and succeeds Harinder Hira, who retires today.
Among the various assignments that Roy has held in his bureaucratic career are a three year (2007-2010) stint as Secretary General, International Jute Study Group, Dhaka, Bangladesh, regional director ministry of environment and forests and has served in union ministry of commerce and industry, ministry of textile and ministry of development and poverty alleviation.
With the Himachal government Roy has served as deputy commissioner in Hamirpur and Kangra districts, divisional commissioner, Mandi, secretary in the department of Health, Agriculture, Cooperation, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Technical Education and Education.
He also remained as principal secretary forests and financial commissioner appeals and chairman of appellate authority.
Roy is M.Phil. in Public Administration from Punjab University and also hold a post graduate degree in History from HP University.
