SJVN 9 month profit registers 20% increase over last year

Shimla: Public sector power generating company SJVN registered a marginal increase in profit before tax for the quarter over the corresponding one whereas the overall profit before tax for the accounting year has registered and 20 percent increase.
Declaring the financial results after a board meeting at Delhi today, the profit before tax for 9 months ending December 2011 was Rs 1143.99 crore against Rs 954.80 Crore in the corresponding previous year.
Power sales for the 9 months this fiscal registered at Rs 1543.84 crore against Rs 1446.78 crore last year.
In the December 2011 quarter, the profit before tax was Rs 224.27 Cr against Rs 220.93 Cr in the corresponding quarter last financial.
The earnings per share for three quarters has increased from last years Rs 1.94 to Rs 2.29 this year, said a company spokesman.
In nine months, the 1500 MW flagship Nathpa Jhakri plant on Sutlej River has generated 6974 million units (MU) of power against 6402 MU in the corresponding period during the previous year.
SJVN in all probability is going to surpass last years record generation of 7140 MU from the mega plant this year.
Last year SJVN had reported a net profit of Rs 912.13 Cr with an earnings per share of Rs 2.21 and had paid out a total dividend of Rs 330.93 Cr.
With 65 % of the share holding in the company held by Government of India, 25 % by the Himachal Pradesh Government, the rest is held by public shareholders.
