Dharamsala : Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama Thursday left his residence in this Himachal Pradesh hill town for New Delhi where he will undergo medical examination, his aide said.
“He is going to Delhi for a routine medical examination of his eyes…no need to worry,” Thubten Samphel, a spokesperson for the Tibetan government-in-exile, said .
He said the Dalai Lama would be in Delhi for the next few days.
Tempa Tsering, the Dalai Lama’s representative in New Delhi, said he is reaching Delhi by a flight from Pathankot in Punjab.
He refused to name the hospital to which the spiritual guru would be taken.
An official in the Dalai Lama’s office said he could not take off from the Gaggal airport near here due to inclement weather.
He travelled by road to Pathankot, some 80 km from his official palace and travel time of about three hours, from where he took his flight to Delhi.
The Dalai Lama, along with many of his supporters, fled Tibet and took refuge in India when Chinese troops moved in and took control of Lhasa in 1959.
His government-in-exile based here is not recognised by any country.
