Punjab MP, Bittu for stern action against drug peddlers

Chandigarh: Facing a mounting problem of drug addiction, Ravnit Singh Bittu, a congress Member of Parliament has demanded strict action against illegal drug peddlers to prevent youngsters falling prey to them.

Welcoming the formation of a drug prevention board, Bittu said that it was an historical step taken by the government after a youth movement led by congress had resorted to a 10 day hunger strike at Ludhiana recently.

After delaying the grave issue for months, better sense has finally prevailed upon the government and the board members have finally been announced, he said.

Asking chief minister Prakash Singh Badal to personally monitor the working of the board, the congressman said that the party would be maintaining a vigilance lest any drug peddler nabbed is let go without strict action being initiated.
