Unique Identity Project launched in Himachal

Hamirpur: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal formally launched Aadhaar Enrolments – the Unique Identity Project (UID), in Hamirpur today to commemorate the 41st State Level Statehood Day.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Aadhaar Number (UID) project was likely to be completed within a year duration in Himachal.

The 12 digit Aadhaar unique number would be made available to all residents, including migrants enrolling with the authority, said Dhumal.

The unique number would become a valid document for opening a bank account, easy verifiable in an online, cost-effective way unique and robust enough to eliminate the large number of duplicate and fake identities in Government and private data bases.

The random number generated would be devoid of any classification based on caste, creed, religion and geography, he said.

The state was planning to use Aadhaar for various on-going state and central government schemes.

He urged the residents of the state to bring ration card, PAN Card, Driving License, Bank Account Pass Book, LPG Book, MNREGA Job Card and a copy of the receipt of National Population Register for the enrollment at the centre as proof of their identity to get themselves registered for the UID card issuance.

He said that Himachal Pradesh had emerged as one of the States which had followed all the processes and systems of the project to ensure quality of data for sustainability.
