Himachal Pradesh opens National highways for vehicular traffic

Shimla: A spokesman of the State government said here today that all the National Highways in the Sate have been opened for vehicular traffic which were blocked due to heavy snowfall on Saturday and Sunday last by putting men and machinery on war footing to clear all the blocked roads. The national highways beyond Wangtoo has been opened upto Pooh by Border Road Organization, he added.

The spokesman further said that Theog-Kotkhai-Hatkoti-Rohru roads have been opened yesterday whereas the road from Shimla to Chopal has been opened day before yesterday. Dodra Kwar road would be opened upto Larot in next 2-3 days in first phase, as at present there is about 6 feet of snow at Chansal and it was almost snowing time and again daily and road beyond Larot could be opened when everything is normal. The Roads from Chamba to Bharmour, Salooni, Holi, Dalhousie and Tissa have also been opened, the spokesman added.

The Spokesman further said that Public Works Department have deployed about 75 mechanical excavators, JCBs and Dozers for clearance of snow so as to resume the traffic and the remaining roads would be opened in next 3-4 days. He said that it should be appreciated that despite heavy snowfall the Government has taken steps to open all the blocked roads for vehicular traffic by putting maximum men and material for this work.
