Shimla: With functioning of IPL in the thick of controversy, Communist Party of India Marxists (CPIM) has sought to bring Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) under the ambit of the investigation and demanded that their records be immediately seized.
Member secretary CPI(M) Tikender Panwar has asked investigating agencies to probe the records of HPCA as there was apprehension of large scale irregularities in its functioning.
“Records of the organisation needed to be seized immediately, lest they are burnt down,†said Panwar.
Questioning the manifold increase in resources of the organisation, he questioned how the cricket associations’ revenues, which used to be short of funds till a few years, have turned it into a multi-crore organisation.
HPCA in the last decade has seen a substantial increase in its finances and have been able to lay out the state’s first international stadium in Dharamshala, where recently two IPL matches were held.
With Anurag Thakur, MP and son of chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal heading HPCA for over a decade, CPI(M) has stated that the stranglehold on the organisation was not serving the purpose of promoting cricket but the platform was beind used for commercial activities to generating money for indivduals who control the game.
