Himachal to improve weather forecast system

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh meteorological department will be strengthened with the installation of new high-tech gadgets to provide more precise and exhaustive weather forecast, proving helpful especially to farmers of the state.

Met. Deptt. plans to install two Doppler weather radars, one at the highest peak of Shimla i.e. Jakhu peak and other at Dharamshala. ‘Each radar has a range of about 150 km. It would provide cloudburst and hailstorm warning,’ the met official said to the sources.

At present twenty-three weather stations are operating in the state, and work for installation of eighty-one Automatic Rain Gauge Stations under the Integrated Project of Himalayas scheme would start from next month.
