Justice Kurian Joseph elevated as Chief Justice Himachal High Court

Shimla: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cleared a list of elevating judges as chief justices of High Courts, including that of Himachal Pradesh and also approved the elevation of four chief justices of High Court to the Supreme Court
A report appearing in The Hindu quoting union law ministry sources mentions that Justice Kurian Joseph, the senior most judge of the Kerala High, had been recommended for being appointed as the chief justice of Himachal Pradesh.
The file has been sent to attain President Pratibha Patil’s approval and the appointment is expected next week, the report mentions.
Justices Ananga Kumar Patnaik (Madhya Pradesh), Tirath Singh Thakur (Punjab and Haryana), Surinder Singh Nijjar (Calcutta) and K.S. Radhakrishnan (Gujarat) whose names were cleared by the Supreme Court collegiums have been approved for elevation to the Supreme Court, the report states.
