Himachal to spend Rs 500 Cr on NREGA – Jai Ram Thakur

Shimla: As impact of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) begins to be felt, Jai Ram Thakur, rural development minister said that in 2009-10 the state would be able to spend Rs 500 crore on various developments activities under the program.
Speaking at a public meeting at Ghandal near the capital, the minister disclosed that last year Rs 332 crores was spent by the state on NREGA activities.
He said Rs. 8.72 lakh job cards stood prepared, out which 2.07 lakh had been provided employment. An amount of Rs 118 crore would be spent on rural development alone, he said adding that all villages without roads would be provided connectivity through NERGA.
