Shimla: A scare was created outside the Shimla District and Session court on Monday when a police pistol was accidentally fired. No one was injured but the Assistant Sub-inspector, whose personal weapon it was, stands suspended.
District police chief RM Sharma stated that Ram Swaroop ASI has been suspended for the negligent firing outside the courts.
Swaroop who was escorting a dreaded criminal to be presented in the court was carrying a loaded pistol for security reasons.
Before entering the courtroom the official handed the weapon to the accompanying constable but before he could firmly hold the loaded weapon, it slipped out of his hand and the trigger was accidently hit, sources said.
An inquiry would reveal whether action needs to be taken against the accompanying head constable and constable for the accidental firing, said Sharma.
