Shimla: While other states resorting to power outages as the overcharged summer hammers down day in and day out and consumption outstrips demand, Himachal is a comfortable situation as hydropower generation picks up.
Suneel Grower, a senior engineer at HPSEB who monitoring the state power situation said, “against a overall demand of 190 million units of power, we have a supply of 250 million units.
He said 81 MU of power was being generated by HPSEB power plants, 79 MU was being supplied by JP Hydropower’s Baspa plant and the rest by central project consisting of Nathpa Jhakri plant, Chamera projects and others.
Denying any constraints in power supply, Grower said, “In fact we are supplying about 60 MU of power under power banking to Punjab and Haryana.â€
RD Chanana, a trader said that this year there was an increase in demand for pedestal and table fans. “Despite paying advance, the suppliers were not able to meet additional demand.”
However, the demand for ACs was modest and mostly confined to government offices, especially laboratory’s where experiments have to be conducted under controlled temperature conditions.
