Shimla: The intense dry spell was broken by a light evening drizzle that provided some relief to tourists and residents but as the rain was not widespread, the farming community’s hopes of saving their crops wrest on further advance of the monsoon.
Partly overcast conditions with a day high temperature at 29.6 degree Celsius raised humidity to uncomfortable levels in the state capital as the day wore on but the evening drizzle cooled of the scorching heat that the hills have witnessed this summer.
Localised light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms were reported from many other parts of the state. The weatherman reported Dharamshala recorded 6.8 mm of rain, Mandi and Sundernagar recorded 3 mm of rain.
Highest temperatures in Himachal were recorded in Una at 43 degree Celsius, followed by Sundernagar at 39.3 degree Celsius. At Bhunter Kullu the days high was 38.1 and at Dharmshala it was 32.2 degree Celsius.
The met office over the next two days has forecast rains in Himachal Pradesh, which could provide some relief to drinking and farm water shortages.
