Shimla: BJP termed Sonia Gandhi’s weekend rally as a ‘flop show’ saying it did not generate much interest among voters and the party chief skirted burning issues with which the common man has been confronted under the UPA government.
Party spokesman Ashok Kapahtia said “the congress president offered no explanation as to why the UPA government reduced the industrial package term to seven years that the Vajpayee led government had notified for 10 years.”
He said that the Sonia Gandhi did not even mention issues like high prices of essential commodities hitting the common household nor did she touch upon rising joblessness after the economic slowdown.
About the crowd assembled to hear the star campaigner he said, the numbers were even lower than what the Mandi candidate Virbhadra Singh had when he filed his nomination papers.
“This only shows that the congress leaders were losing their appeal with the masses,” he said.
Taking a dig at former chief minister Virbhadra Singh initially being given a backseat on the dais at the rally addressed by Sonia, the BJP spokesman said that party factionalism was openly on display at what congress tried to project as unity.
