Farming of medicinal plants to be promoted – Bindal

Shimla: To provide alternate sources of farm incomes, the HP medicinal plant board is to promote cultivation of medicinal herbs for which financial assistance would be provided, Rajeev Bindal, health minister stated.
More than 50 species of medicinal herbs have been identified, which would be planted in different areas of the state depending upon their ability of adaptation to climatic conditions, said Bindal.
Different species of wild medicinal herbs are being provided to 138 farmers and Rs 1.28 crore would be provided as financial assistance to motivate them for taking to farming of medicinal herbs, the minister said at a review meeting of the board on Tuesday.

i think the health minister should concentrate more on these options which can bring more benefits to the state than opening a medical college in all districts with private parties having their vested interests. with more and more emphasis being given to natural products, the state could become a major producer of medical plants in future
