NABARD stresses on credit inclusion to promote rural economy

Shimla: To promote economic activity in rural areas, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) held a state level meet with rural development officials, bankers and NGO for creating awareness about varied capital investment schemes.

Stressing on the role of NGO is creating awareness ST Raghuraman, Chief General Manager, NABARD detailed about funds being provided for rural godowns, venture capital funding for dairy and poultry, agri-marketing infrastructure and other rural economic schemes.

He asked partner banks to strive for achieving 100 percent credit inclusion as part of total financial inclusion.

Raghuraman said that were over 43,000 Self Help Groups functioning with bank credit in the state which had been assisted by NABARD under a SHG bank linkage program.

Besides that 500 farmers clubs had also been established by the bank to create direct linkages between banks and borrowers so as to transfer technology from research bodies to fields, he said.

Ripan Murgai, General Manager, UCO Bank talked about need for creation of awareness among farmers about the latest technologies, entrepreneurship and skill development for rural unemployed youth, formation and nurturing of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and their capacity building for gainful self employment and marketing support for the rural artisans.
