Shimla: Himalaya International, a Himachal based agri-export house has tied up with ALDI, a US based grocery chain, for selling its products under Himalaya Fresh in the country.
Manmohan Malik, Chairman Himalya International (HIL) disclosed that under the agreement ALDI stores in America would sell frozen vegetables, baby potatoes and breaded appetizers thorough the nationwide chain of 1000 stores set up from Kansas to the East Coast.
The ALDI chain has targeted to sell around $ 3 million worth products under the Himalya Fresh brand in a year. The first shipment of 100 tons of frozen vegetables and breaded appetizers are scheduled to be dispatched in November, said Malik.
Himalya International expected exports to US to grow by 60 percent in the current year targeting a export revenue of $ 10 million by March end.
Malik said, economic slowdown in US has offered new opportunities to the export business as demand for inexpensive food products for the middle class customers hit hard by the current economic situation is expected to increase.
Strengthening of dollar in relation to rupee has increased the company’s export revenue considerably as the company transacts its US business in dollars, he added.
