Shimla: Unaffected by subdued sentiment in stock meltdown elsewhere, hectic buying was witnessed in the markets here over the past fortnight.
Â
The gold sales have been better than last year said Kapil Mahashe, president Himachal Pradesh Jewelers Association. With divulging any figures he said, despite the high prices of gold that sales being reported are double of last year. Â
Â
Tourism has been upbeat with upend as well as other hotels reporting good occupancy rates. A five star Oberoi hotel claimed to have had more that 65 percent occupancy over the past month.
Â
The festive purchasing mood was also reflected in the car sales being reported. Sandeep Thakur, a sales manager in one car show room disclosed that over the past week alone about 250 new cars had been sold out. For the month the figure was more that 500 cars sold.
Â
Hectic purchasing was witnessed in the central mall marketing plaza, and the lower bazaar was a crowded place to even walk about.
Â
Like the Christmas – New Year festive week, the pooja festivals and Diwali are one occasion, when people are eager to catch up with relatives, revive contacts or settle old grouses, said Sandeep Mehra, an old timer. From being a simple festival to one consumed by a marketing and shopping blitz is an evolution of the times around, he added. Â
