Shimla : Students Federation of India (SFI) retained their hold over Himachal Pradesh University winning three of the four position on the Students Central Association body and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) managed to win the vice-president position.

Shika Chauhan is perhaps the first girl to win the president election at HPU. The others from the SFI panel who won include Virender Singh as general secretary and Surender Kumar as joint-secretary. A resurgent Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarathi Parishad (ABVP) won 11 departments. The congress affiliated NSUI feared badly only managing to win 2 departments where as six departments pitched in for independent candidates.

In all 1831 votes of the total of over 2500 were cast. The tight security arrangement did provide a secure environment and the poll was conducted peacefully.

In the government college of excellence Sanjauli, SFI and ABVP shared the posts by wining two each.
