Himachal to have its own Climate Change Policy

Prem Kumar Dhumal, the Chief Minister said that state government would prepare its own Climate Change Policy in tune with the National Action Plan on Climate Change while addressing the the HPPCL Power Development Lecture-2008 organized by the HP Power Corporation Ltd, a Special Purpose Vehicle of the State at Shimla today.
He said that the carbon credits would be realized under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) while the government was making efforts to develop the state as a ‘Power House of the Country’. He further said that the state government has decided to invite bids on share in the energy generated instead of seeking bids on upfront premium basis intending to achieve complete energy security. Chief Minister said that the Power Department has to coordinate action on issues related to energy development and sale of power, which could be strengthened further through a separate Directorate. He said that the state government had announced creation of a new Directorate of Energy is in the budget for this year.
