Himachal to implement mid day meal scheme from 1st July

Sunil Chaudhary, the Director of Elementary Education announced that the State Government has decided to provide Mid Day Meal from 1st July, 2008 in all the Government and Government aided Middle Schools for students from class 6th to 8th class. Himachal Government has made a provision for 10 crores under the scheme and 150 gram food grains per child per working day would also be provided from 1st July onwards. The government has asked all the Deputy Commissioners to make sure that the scheme is implemented successfully in all 4262 Government and Government aided Middle Schools from 1st July, 2008. The scheme would benefit some 3, 50,874 students.
The mid day meal would consist of pulse, rice, vegetarian-Palao, dry-fruit-mixed, sweet rice during different days of the week as specified. While he directed to form local committees in each middle school with full authority to ensure nutritious mid day meal to students according to existing circumstances, availability of food items and taste of students of respective areas, he further said that the committees should give precedence and priority to local widows, divorced women as far as engaging helping hand is concerned.
