Security Tightened For President’s Visit

Shimla: Security in and around Shimla has been beefed up as the hill resort prepares to host the first citizen President Pratibha Patil for her week long sojourn here.
RM Sharma, superintendent police disclosed that about 1000 additional police personnel had been deployed for enhancing security around The Retreat, which is the summer residence of the President near Kufri.
“Barriers have been erected for regulating traffic and security needs,†said Sharma.
President Patil is expected to arrive here on Tuesday evening from Jammu and Kashmir, where she is presently on tour.
The municipal corporation is to hold a civic reception for the president on 28th at the Ridge ground. Governor VS Kokje, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and other important leaders like opposition leader Vidya Stokes and former chief minister Virbhadra Singh are expected to participate in the civic reception to be hosted in honour of the president.
President Patil is scheduled to visit Manali on May 29 from where she would return the next day. On June 1 she is scheduled to return to Delhi.
