Government To Get Tough With Transport Tax Evaders – Kishan Kapoor

Shimla: Getting tough on transport tax evaders, the state transport authorities have decided to put defaulting transporters on notice and recover the due revenues.
Presiding over a meeting, Kishan Kapoor, transport minister asked the officials to initiate serious action against those transporters who have yet to foot tax liabilities of over Rs 1 lakh.
He asked the officials to award those private bus operators who were paying their taxes on time. The regional transport officers were directed to undertake surprise inspections of private buses to ensure ticket distribution to commuters.
Rajinder Thakur, director transport informed the meet that the revenue target for the financial year had been fixed at Rs 136 crore. In the month of April Rs 2.17 crore had been collected as special road tax. About 830 vehicles had been booked for violations of traffic rules and Rs 13.21 lakh realized against fines imposed, said Thakur.
