Started in winters of January, 2004 when a group of students proposed the idea of teaching children of daily laborers, the mission has made an impact.
The literary mission started with just 2 students and 1 teacher has now grown and includes 60-70 students and 20-30 teachers. Primarily the reason for the initiation of this mission was the flaws in our education system. It was noticed that children at primary level were not getting proper education. Started as a volunteer mission, it has now been included as an optional subject in the curriculum of NIT Hamirpur.
The volunteers teach the kids for around one to one and a half hour from Monday to Saturday after college hours. Extra curricular events like painting, declamation, games etc are also organized for these kids on Sundays. Financially weak students are also sponsored. The organization collects money through a charity event called ‘Prayas’. Going through the financial constraints, the organization is looking for ways to expand their work and conduct it on a larger level.
Talking about the achievements, Vishal Thakur, the coordinator of the mission names a Joshi Sureen and Veenu who have passed12th and10th CBSE exams respectively. The organization has also helped in collecting funds for Arpita, a 3 year old girl who was suffering from multiple cysts in one of her kidneys and now has been successfully operated.
PRAYAS would be held on 5th April this year.
