Shimla: Fearing arrest in the fake certificate case, BR Rahi, the former chairman of HP School Education Board today secured anticipatory bail. The district and session judge has granted the bail till 31st March.
When questioned by the Vigilance team in the case, Rahi had denied having played any part in assisting former minister Singhi Ram in securing a 10 +2 certificate for his daughter Upma Kashyap. The certificate in contention formed the basis by which Upma got admission into Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi for the 2005 session.
As a student of Lawrence School Sanawar, Upma had failed to clear the plus two board examination in the year 2005, yet she had managed to get admission to the prestigious Delhi College, the police say.
Earlier during interrogation Singhi Ram had told the investigating team that the plus 2 certificate had been given to him by Rahi. Ram also reportedly told the investigation team that Rahi had taken back the certificate and had not returned it.
The vigilance officials now intend to jointly question Rahi and Singhi Ram. The former minister had earlier obtained an anticipatory bail till 31st March in the forgery and cheating case registered against him and his daughter.
